Die meistgestellte – und sehr kontrovers beantwortete – Frage dürfte momentan sein, ob bei der Gewalt unter Jugendlichen eine Zunahme zu verzeichnen ist. Eine generelle Antwort auf diese Frage scheint derzeit vor allem auf Grund f- lender Längsschnittstudien und zum Teil unterschiedlicher methodischer Vor- hensweisen der vorliegenden empirischen Arbeiten nicht möglich. Bei der Diskussion dieser Problemstellung lassen sich im Wesentlichen zwei konträre Positionen ausmachen, „einerseits Auffassungen, welche Gewa- phänomene an Bildungseinrichtungen nicht überbewerten wollen und folglich darin wenig Anlass zur Besorgnis sehen“ (Biedermann & Plaum, 2001, S. eighty five) und andererseits solche, „die von einer mindestens tendenziellen (quantitativen und/oder qualitativen) Zunahme derartiger Auffälligkeiten bei Schulpflichtigen berichten“ (ebd.).
